NABVENTURES, the venture capital arm of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), plans to invest about ₹30 crore to ₹70 crore from its Fund II in growth business across agriculture and rural economy.

The company had recently announced its first close at ₹450 crore, against a target corpus of ₹1,500 crore of Fund II.

The fund will also retain the flexibility to participate in subsequent follow-on rounds, the company said in a statement.

Vikas Bhatt, Managing Director, NABVENTURES, said, “Agriculture and rural transformation remain at the core of our thesis, alongside opportunities in financial services, agri value chain, rural enablers and climate solutions. We look to back scalable businesses with differentiated propositions and strong execution capabilities, leveraging the NABVENTURES and NABARD’s ecosystem to create sustainable impact and long-term value.”

Ashish Choudhury, Chief Investment Officer, NABVENTURES, said, “Fund II builds on our experience and insights from Fund I, with a sharper focus on identifying businesses that have the potential to scale sustainably in large and growing markets. The Fund will primarily invest in Series A and onwards opportunities with a larger initial ticket size, aligned to evolving market dynamics and capital requirements of early and growth stage enterprises”.

Fund II will focus on opportunities across agriculture and allied activities, agribusiness, agri-value chains, rural financial services and climate solutions while placing greater emphasis on emerging themes such as agri-biotechnology, deep-tech, circular economy, and blue economy.

Fund II has also reserved some portion of its corpus for Climate as an incremental theme from Fund I.

NABVENTURES’ earlier funds have collectively backed 23 enterprises across sectors including agritech, aquaculture, food processing, rural development, financial services, supply chain solutions, traceability and cold-chain infrastructure.
